Edinburgh Reuse Map – facilitating a sustainable, circular economy.
Changeworks has partnered with the City of Edinburgh Council to develop a map which showcases reuse, repair, and recycling services across the city. Launched in December 2020, the map encourages Edinburgh residents to think sustainably and explore reuse options on their doorstep.
Through initial funding from Zero Waste Scotland via the European Regional Development Fund, and further funding from the City of Edinburgh Council, the Edinburgh Reuse Map allows local charity shops, repair, and recycling services to join a catalogue of Edinburgh based businesses, increasing their presence, and becoming part of a local circular economy, encouraging reuse and sustainability.
The map is a live online resource, continuing to grow as more organisations are added. The public can explore 100+ Edinburgh based organisations using simple ‘give’, ‘fix’ or ‘get’ buttons helping them find places to donate, buy or repair pre loved items. The map ranges from donating baby clothing, fixing electrical items to buying second-hand toys, clothes, books, movies, and furniture. Businesses can add and edit their opening hours, business purpose and contact details.
Ruth Stone, Low Carbon Communities Officer for Changeworks, said: “This is such an important and exciting resource, especially in the current climate, where we need to be encouraging the circular economy and supporting our local businesses. I am looking forward to seeing how this resource grows and is used by the Edinburgh wide community.”
