Helping teenagers understand each other across global divides

January 10 @ 6:15 pm - 8:30 pm

Over the last year members of the Portobello community, Portobello Rotary Club and Queen Margaret University have developed a profound relationship with the STEKA organisation in Malawi. We have raised money to build a vocational skills centre there, and two residents of the children’s home have lived in our community and attended QMU for 6 months each. Tonight you can hear about what has been learned from the connection and plans for the future. Gift Thompson, an ex street kid and resident of STEKA who has lived in Portobello for the last 6 months will speak alongside QMU lecturer Emma Wood. We will also be thanking the wonderful women from Portobello Timebank who made lavender bags to sell as part of our latest fundraising for STEKA. Come and enjoy a two course meal plus the talk (cost £11) or just for the talk (at 7pm) .
